Forum: GratefulDead Subject: A Visit From St. Stephen

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all ‘cross the land
All Heads were a-jammin’ to their favorite band
The archive was filled with concerts and streams
Filling our ears with Grateful Dead dreams
The children helped Mom make cookies and more
While I plunged the vault adding shows to my score
She wore an apron and I had a dye
While giving 11th of October ’83 just a try
Miracle went into Bertha so fine
Jerry in the jailhouse really sounded quite kind
Took a bite of fudge while the band kept playin’ on
And then China Doll was the name of the song
Looking forward through the list of Set Two
Cause I just couldn’t wait to hear what they’d do
To my surprise, and to that of the crowd
St. Stephen after Space, and all were quite WOW-ed
A long lost song some thought they’d never hear
Garcia sang sweetly with help from Brent and Weir
“Lady finger dipped in moonlight” caused all to swoon
I could picture his glasses and beard while he crooned
“One man gathers what another man spills”
Rang across the valleys and over the hills
Okay, not perfect, but who really cares
It’s the thought that counts, not wrong notes in the air
What a hare they pulled out of the hat
How the hell would they follow that?
Bobby steps up and they do Throwin’ Stones
Jerry playing fiercely after “We are on our own.”
Pound it Mickey! Hammer it Bill!
With Brent’s 88, and bass bombs from Phil
From the Bowery to The Bronx, all through Gotham Town
New York was dancing to “ashes, ashes, all fall down”
But still one more tune before the end of the set
Touch of Grey filled the Garden with joy I would bet
“We will get by, we will survive” sang all who were there
An ovation from thousands as the band broke for fresh air
Encore time found Johnny B. Goode
Sending all out the exits dancing, as they should
And to every one of my new forum friends
A Merry Christmas to all, let’s hope the fun never ends!
